English translation: ‘Oh dear!’

Literal: (Unknown, though thought almost certainly not derived from the surname of the presenter of the popular BBC children’s newsround programme of the 70s and 80s).  

Usage: invariably uttered in conjunction with the phrases, ‘Jings’ and ‘Help m’boab’ (for full effect). First recorded usage by either Oor Wullie, PC Murdoch or Paw Broon in the Sunday Post, 26th April 1875 (published by D.C.Thompson, Dundee).
